Quartz Hill Veterinary Staff

Joreen, Veterinary Assistant Joreen joined our team in January 2014. She began her work with animals at 19, while in college. She studied Biology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. After college, Joreen took a break from animals and moved to Chicago to be a Flight Attendant for United Airlines. While she enjoyed flying very much, her real love for animals eventually called her back. She came to Quartz Hill with her family in November 2013, in support of her husband who is a Test Flight Engineer for the Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base. She has a 14 year old son, Garrett, who will attend Quartz Hill High School in the fall of 2014. Along with her son, she also has furry family members. A lab mix named Logan, an Australian Shepard named Oscar and two cats, Forrest and Fleetwood, who are as spoiled as they come!
Cat Spellmeyer, Office Manager/Receptionist I was born and raised in Newhall, California, and am a 1982 graduate of Wm. S. Hart High School. I started my career in the animal field in 1984. After working for a veterinarian in Newhall for ten years, he retired and closed the practice, so I moved to Lancaster to be with my family. I have three children: Sean, 27, Erin, 24 and Hanna who is 16. Sean graduated CSUN in 2008 with a Bachelorís Degree and has recently received his Pilots License and is looking into a career with a Commercial Air Lines. Erin graduated form C.O.C. in 2009. She then went on to Kaplan College and graduated this year, 2012, and is currently working on her career as a licensed Ultrasound Tech. Hanna is in the 10th grade this year, 2012. Her hobbies are Cheer and hanging out with friends. I have been in the animal field for over 20 years and my passion is still growing! My hobbies are going camping, shopping, I love going to the movies, going to the tea house, and most of all being with my family. Our family includes three cats: Tony & Maggie who are 9 years old, and Columbus who is 4 years old. Columbus was a bottle-fed baby and is still very demanding. They keep us very busy and our hearts full of love. If I only had more room, I would have more pets. I started my career here at QHVC in 2005. I look forward to being here at Quartz Hill Veterinary Clinic until Iím ready to retire, then would love to move to the beautiful East coast of North Carolina. Denise Kinney, Receptionist † Married to her high school sweetheart, James, for nearly nineteen years, together they have five children. Tyler and Mikayla (two-legged): Tyler, 18, has begun his senior year at Highland High School. He enjoys his X-box and skateboarding, and listening to music. Mikayla, 14, began her high school career at Highland last fall. Mikayla enjoys spending time with friends, talking on the phone, and MySpace! Mocha, Wally & Critter (4-legged): Mocha, a 14 year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, was adopted from the Dodge County Humane Society (Fremont, NE) when she was three years old.†Mocha has been a big part of the family, and Jamesí best friend and hunting companion. Mocha loves to get the birds! Wally, a five year-old Cocker Spaniel, was adopted from Half Way to Home here at the local PetSmart when he was two. When Wally first came to the house he did not like men. After going on a lot of walks and interacting with the other people and their pets, Wally is now a friend to everyone. Critter, a four year-old mutt, as Mikayla would call him, was found wandering the cold, wet streets around our home. After searching for his owners for four weeks, Critter officially became a member of the Kinney household. Denise and James moved to Palmdale in 2001 from Fremont, Nebraska, leaving all of their family and friends to begin a new chapter in their lives. James, an electrical engineer with the City of Glendale, enjoys playing golf, riding his Harley, and going to baseball games with his family. Denise, Receptionist/Assistant, enjoys spending time with her family, going to watch the Angels play in Anaheim, taking the dogs for a walk with Mikayla, and chatting with friends on FaceBook. Christine, Veterinary Assistant Christine has been a Veterinary Technician since 2004. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to work with animals. Christine started her career in San Antonio, Texas. She moved back to Antelope Valley in July 2013. Christine is engaged to a wonderful man, Josh Breslin. They've known each other for over 20 years and found each other on Facebook over four years ago. They have been inseparable ever since. Together they share three children. Ricky, 20 years old, is working on a career as a mechanic and is making me a grandmother in July 2014. Cory, 20 year old, is enlisting in the Marines, and Kelsey, 17 years old, graduated from high school a year early and is now attending college to become a pharmacist. As for our furry and feathered children: Sadie Dogue De Bordeaux is a Barley Sheltie; Ginger is our old Pit Bull; Lilly, Pippa, and Cali are our cats; Meryl is our Green Cheeked Conour; and last but not least, our trouble-making Ferrets, Swift and Furb. Some of her hobbies include long motorcycle rides, horses (Christine is looking to rescue/adopt), camping, and social get togethers. She feels lucky to have started work with Quartz Hill Veterinary Clinic in July of 2013. One of the areas that Christine has been able to grow in is orthopedics. She feels it is a privilege to get to assist and work beside Dr. Chris Biggerstaff through his orthopedic surgeries. Christine looks forward to meeting you and your furry family members. Kathy Shroeder, Certified RVT † Hi, Iím Kathy Schroeder. Iíve been here at Quartz Hill Veterinary Clinic since October of 2006, but have been a Registered Veterinary Technician since 1990. I have always loved animals and have known since I was very young that I wanted to work with them as a career. In addition to working in a small animal private practice, I worked for Los Angeles County Animal Control for five years, had my own pet setting business and taught veterinary assisting for the Adult School. Each position has had its proís and conís, but just being around the animals makes all of them worthwhile. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and my family moved to Cody, Wyoming, when I was fourteen. Not being much of a country girl or cold weather person, I moved to California when I was twenty-four. I am married to a professional canine behavior specialist and we have three solid black German Shepherds and a Beagle. We also have three cats. We rent a property that has kennels on it and hope to eventually open it up to the dogs that have recently been rescued from shelters by the local rescue groups. I am currently attending Antelope Valley College to become a certified American Sign Language interpreter. I enjoy scrapbooking, boogie boarding, spending time in the deaf community and ministry through my church. Megan, Receptionist Megan Laughton was born and raised here in the Antelope Valley. She has been a huge animal lover her whole life. Megan has had numerous different pets growing up, and to this day canít live without a furry friend in her life. After taking a veterinary assistant program, she started volunteering at a local veterinary office and was eventually hired. A couple years later in January of 2013 she started here and loves it. Caring for different pets and interacting with their families brings so much joy to her life. Megan is a busy girl studying to become an Elementary School Teacher, working as an Instructional Assistant, and our occasional weekend receptionist. She loves that she gets to enjoy both of her passions at work; children and animals. She lives with her Wildland Firefighter boyfriend and their two fur children Smokey the Dalmation and Layla the lab mix. Megan loves playing with her dogs, hanging out with her boyfriend, friends, and family, gardening, learning, and anything to do with water. VACCINATION CLINIC
